I Think I Found It
My Central Perk, my Common Grounds NYC, my coffee haven in the big city. While walking home from the park today, I saw a cute little coffee shop that said "Fine Teas and Coffees" on the awning. I walked in and felt like I was back in the middle of Waco. Dilapidated couches, eclectic art, and a cramped coffee bar welcomed me to Rohr's Cafe. I bought a small coffee and found a cozy corner in which to read. I took out my copy of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn that I recently bought with my Border's gift certificate from my Faculty Advisor (my observer during the Philadelphia summer school). I started this quaint novel on a bench in the middle of Central Park earlier in the afternoon and have had trouble putting it down.
Yesterday I took the opportunity to visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for their Free Fridays. The six floor museum was packed with people, but I still enjoyed my time there. I put my iPod on Beethoven so that I wouldn't be distracted by all the chattering. They had a fantastic collection of Picasso's and a wonderful photography exhibit of Lee Friedman's work. His black and white photos were taken all over the United States. Their simplicity reveals so much about life in America and beautiful land in which we live. It was a fantastic evening overall and, even though you have to put up with the crowds, I plan on going back soon. There's always something wonderful to do in the finest city in the world.
