At last, at home!
After almost a week of unpacking, sorting, shopping, lifting, lugging, and more, our apartment finally looks like a home. Katie is a great decorator and brought a ton of stuff from Texas. It all arrived on Tuesday at about 7 p.m. and Katie and I had to bring it all up two flights of stairs and into the living room. She had chairs, decorations, lamps, a bed, and about thirty boxes and we brought it all up ourselves. The mover arrived and dropped all the boxes right inside the door. He wouldn't help us bring them up at all. It was an exhausting thirty minutes, but we did it.
Since then Katie has been unpacking and arranging like a madwoman. Our living room looks fantastic and the bathroom and kitchen are almost there. We have our black futon and a small black coffee table in the center of the room and then a round chair in the corner. There are two beautiful floor lamps and great wall hangings all over. There are candles all around the room, some on pedestals and everything.
This afternoon the Time-Warner guy came and set up out cable internet and TV. At the moment, we have premium cable (HBO and everything), but that won't last long, only for the first month. We'll also have wireless internet throughout the apartment so I'll be able to communicate a bit better with the outside world from now on.
I also took some time to do a little sightseeing this afternoon and took the train down to Times Square and then walked over to Rockefeller Center and then up Fifth Avenue. My last stop was Bed, Bath and Beyond where I purchased a few needed items for our kitchen. Now I'm watching some of Mr. Holland's Opus (a little teaching inspiration for the evening) and then I'll be off to bed. Katie's parents will get here tomorrow night and will be staying in a hotel near our apartment. I think the four of us are going to make a trip to IKEA in New Jersey on Saturday. Homemaking is such an adventure.
