Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie
Yesterday on my visit to the Resource Room (the pseudo-library that TFA has set up for us at Temple), I decided to pick up a book for a bit of fun reading. I checked out Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick, a former TFA Houston Corps Member. It's a middle school level novel about an 8th grade drummer who learns how to cope with his six year old brother having leukemia. It was great! I couldn't put it down and (after sleeping a short six hours) I finished it at 7:30 this morning.
It was refreshing to read something just for fun and re-acquaint myself with young adult literature. Besides, I had already finished all of my work and watched two movies this weekend so I didn't have much else to do. Today we are having a half day of classes at Temple (I know, happy 4th of July) and then we have the rest of the afternoon and evening off. I would like to get some fireworks in, but that'll only happen if, as my dad always says, I can re-charge my batteries this afternoon (i.e. take a nap).
If you're interested in a funny and touching middle school novel, I highly recommend the Dangerous Pie book. I'll have to go see what other gems I can find in that tiny Resource Room.
