the Weekend!
It's about 8:30 am on Saturday morning and I think I might be the only person up in the whole dorm! I know that most of us need to catch up on some sleep right about now. Yesterday was great and I think my co-teaching group is finally starting to work well together. We all understand each other better and now how to use each other's strengths to help get the job done.
We spent some time in our classroom yesterday (Room 215) deciding who would make what this weekend and where we would put it on Tuesday. I'll be making 30 stars for the kids to write their name on and then draw a picture of themselves in the center. I also need to create a few posters that explain our consequence system and I'm in charge of getting the name tags ready for the desks.
After school I found out that I need to get some materials to the copy center (on the other side of campus, of course) within the hour. I rushed downstairs to the computer lab to print them out and while I was typing a huge thunderstorm began. I went back to my room to get my raincoat and umbrella and then made the trek across campus, thinking all the while "relentless pursuit," "it's all for the kids." It was a long, soggy, sweaty walk, but I made it in time!
After dinner, I came back to my room and spent a relaxing evening watching my roommate's copy of Garden State while I cut out my 30 stars. I made it to bad by 11 pm and got 9 hours of sleep!!!
I plan to spend the day making some calls and then headed out to explore Philadelphia. I'm still planning on making an appearance at the Live 8 concert, but I've got to find some one to go with first (shouldn't be a hard task). I now know that it's a benefit concert that tons of celebrities are involved in. Each artist will play about three songs for a total of 20 minutes and there will be jumbo-trons set up all around the area. Tomorrow I'll be writing a few more lesson plans and creating those awesome posters for my classroom.
Lauren and Garrett will arrive in Arizona today for their exciting vacation. I so wish I was there with them, but I know they'll have a great time. They will be going to Flagstaff with my mom and making a trip to the Grand Canyon (Lauren's first time). I hope to see lots of pictures and hear some great stories very soon. Katie took the Greyhound to New York City last night so I will miss seeing her as well this weekend. She is staying at the dorm on the other side of campus so we really haven't seen each other much at all since we got to Philly. On Wednesday she called and asked me to have dinner with her in the cafeteria. I enjoyed sitting down with her for a bit and catching up. We're both so excited about teaching and living together in the fall.
