The pieces are coming together

Exciting news! I just found out late last night (through email) that I have been assigned to Region 9 of the New York City public school district. Region 9 covers parts of Manhattan and the South Bronx, so I'll most likely be teaching in the Lower East Side, Spanish Harlem, or the South Bronx. This is good news because it means I can be more purposeful in my housing search. I still think I want to live on the Upper West Side.
On Sunday, I got great news from two sources. First, I talked to Katie from Baylor who has been a great support in getting ready for this transition. I enjoy talking to her and I really think we have a great chance of getting along long term. Well, she asked me if I would like to be her roommate and, of course, I said yes. We may look for another person to rent with us but at least I now know for sure that I have a great person to live with. A little while later that day I received a facebook message from a friend of my brother's who is currently living and working in NYC. He mentioned that the apartment he is living in is going to have a room (or possibly two) up for rent in August. The rent is $675 a month including utilities and the apartment is located a few blocks from Columbia University. I don't know if this will work out, but at least it's a start. I asked him a bunch of questions about it and he hasn't got back to me yet, but we shall see. At least it's a start!
I’m now in the public library with my cool cousin Donovan reading snake books and updating my computer. I have to start packing soon and I have a TON of material to read before I leave. I suppose it’ll all get done eventually.
