Interview day!!!
I just read through my materials on Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics again (HS 435) and I can't wait to go interview there! It's an absolutely fantastic school and I would LOVE to teach there. I talked to Lauren last night and she told me that the best thing for her to do was just relax and be herself. What a concept! Well, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Lauren just found out yesterday that she got a wonderful job teaching sophomore English at a high school in Ft. Worth. I am so excited for her and think this will be a great position. The staff is very supportive and her department chair adores her already (why am I not surprised). I miss her so very much but she pointed out that we are, quite possibly, going to go through very similiar experiences next year. Having that in mind makes everything a bit easier for me.
I thought I would take a moment to reflect on a few things I have already learned about being a New Yorker:
1) iBanking has nothing to do with Apple or iPods (it actually stands for investment banking)
2) skirts are great but should not be worn while walking over subway grates on the sidewalk (think Marilyn Monroe!)
3) New Yorkers truly are some of the friendliest people around, despite their bad reputation (on the way to the Kimmel center at NYU today, at least 5 people said good morning to me and smiled)
4) no matter how little you paid for your fabulous knee high leather boots, they shouldn't be worn in summer because they're just too darn hot
and 5) be prepared to wait in line for the bathroom, even at Starbucks
This is just a bit of wisdom from an acclimating New Yorker. All's well in the Big Apple!

You amaze me, Mariposa! Why am I not surprised that you already have people asking you directions and following you around? Hmm...maybe because I was the one asking you for directions in Waco! Everything in New York sounds beautiful and exciting, and I am so glad to be able to share it with you through email, blog, and phone calls. Speaking of phone calls...I cannot wait to hear about your interview later today! I love you!
