Winter Wonderland
It's snowing! That's right, this morning I woke up to wintry white New York City. I looked out my kitchen window and couldn't help but smile. On my way to church, the snowflakes were falling all around me. It was at this moment that I realized that I probably should have brought my umbrella along or at least a waterproof jacket (I obviously have a lot to learn). Later today, when the beautiful snow had already turned a bit slushy and mud in the well used New York streets, I returned to church for the annual "Lessons and Carols" service. All of St. Bartholomew's choirs joined together for a beautiful evening service. I truly enjoyed singing with these great musicians and fondly remember my childhood experiences of many a Christmas concert. The children's choir also sang with us, robbed in red and well trained to read music and sing with expression (although not as much expression as I would use).
Yesterday I joined with the St. Bart's 20/30s Group at Wollman Rink in Central Park. I invited a teacher from my school to come with us and her and I skated for two hours, only stopping for thirty minutes to let the zamboni smooth the ice. It was great! Everyone kept asking me where I learned to skate and, being that it was only my third or fourth time on ice skates, all I could say was, "elementary school skate night on those four-wheeled roller skates." I must say that I did pretty well out there, weaving in and out of the many people, never falling once. Kristin then came over to my apartment and I made the two of us dinner while we watched a movie together. Overall, a great weekend made extra special by the first snowfall of the year.
