Teaching May Very Well Be the Hardest Job in the World
Let me begin by saying that today was much better than yesterday. After an entirely too short weekend of some work and more procrastinating (i.e. sleeping), I rolled into the school at 7:30 with typed lesson plans and prepared posters. My double period with 621 (advanced ESL) went well and we accomplished most everything we set out to. And then I climbed the stairs and was devoured by 622 (beginning ESL). I was attempting to teach them introductions and the English alphabet. They would not stop talking! We had a staff meeting after school during which I became even more confused about several school policies (binders, tutorials, shirts being tucked-in). There was no definitive answer about any of these matters. I guess I'll just pretend that I know what I'm doing.
Today was much better, though. I spent three periods with 622 and survived them all. In fact, I think they might have learned something. Tomorrow we begin again and, even if I have to serve lunch or after school detention, I believe these wonderful children will learn English.
