2:50 A.M. Fire Drill

At 2:50 a.m. this morning, I started dreaming that my ears were ringing when my roommate woke me up and told me we had to leave the building. It turned out the ringing in my dream was actually the fire alarm in my dorm. Imagine 300 sleepy, overwhelmed new teachers sitting on the sidewalk outside a huge, beautiful new dorm while the fire alarms screamed for 40 minutes. I believe it was a malfunction, but we were given no explanation or directions. Forty minutes after my startling wake-up, I reentered the building and attempted to sleep for an hour and a half more. Still, it's been a beautiful day.
