The New York Philharmonic

Tonight, after a long day of teaching and learning, I took the A train down to 66th street to see the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. I had ordered a student ticket to the first installment of the new Hear and Now series that features contemporary composers explaining their works before they are performed by the orchestra. This particular event featured Joshua Bell and, for a mere $10, I new I couldn't miss it. Although it was a modern piece, a bit dissonant and disturbing at times, I truly enjoyed the concert and the chance to see someone as famous and talented as Bell. Listen to a sample of The Red Violin Concerto by John Corgiliano that was original composed for the artistic film. Scroll down to "Listen to Samples" and you won't be disappointed. The central melody is melancholy and beautiful. Another great night in New York City.
